Men’s Prison Fellowship Outreach and Support Group – Leyhill
TBC has had a link with prisoners at Leyhill Open Prison over many years and the Group called ‘Bristol Fellowship’ has been sharing at Leyhill since 1979.
We have a small Team made up of Christians from three fellowships based in Thornbury (TBC), Bristol and Cam that reaches out with the Gospel to the men on alternative Wednesday evenings.
There are a mix of prisoners at Leyhill that could be progressing towards release. There are also those who are facing long term detention but have been assessed as no longer needing secure detention.
It’s a great opportunity to reach out to support and encourage men in their Christian lives through informal Bible studies that aim to help them meet the challenges they face in a prison environment and then hopefully move towards their future release. Some prisoners will sometimes find it hard to accept forgiveness after being convicted of crimes. They also are likely to face rejection from communities upon release.
We depend on the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us as we share God’s word and seek to encourage those inmates who attend.
We meet in the Chapel’s Lounge room and are greeted by the Chapel Orderlies and are served with refreshment by the prisoners before we share on what the Holy Spirit has laid on our hearts.
The Team is organised by David Conolly with support from Dave Tubb.
On some occasions during the year other guest speakers augment the Team. If you are wanting to observe/explore what it is like to be involved with this Team we are allowed visitors to come with us twice without having to undertake the Disclosure and Barring Service process.
If you are interested in reaching out with good news to those men in prison then do contact David Conolly via the TBC Church Office or email
